A Warehouse Control System (WCS) is the software for controlling material handling equipment and is often paired with a WMS/ERP system and can work in coordination with Warehouse Execution Systems (WES). The WCS coordinates material handling systems at the controls level to determine the most efficient product flow and routing.
Real-time integration with the various material handling technologies is a driver to the efficiency of these systems. The ability of a WCS to seamlessly integrate to the automated material handling equipment including, but, not limited to the following is key:
• Lower level conveyor controls systems (PLC)
• Sortation control systems
• Scanners and RFID readers
• Shipping systems (including route/cost selection software)
• Pick-to-Light
• Put-to-Light
• Carousels
• Print & Apply machines
• Weight-in-motion scales
• Taping machines
• Palletizers and wrapping machines
